When the snow melts....
Our Jules Verne marathon ended last night with the 1954 viewing of Walt Disney’s 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea. Hello Kirk Douglass and a pet seal! We’ve now read three books and watched their movie adaptations in our 2021 Bucket list challenge #readabookwatchthemovie. It’s been rewarding to see if the movie follows the text closely. Especially when the boys yell “that’s not what happened!!”
When I was an art teacher in Maryland, my school earned a grant for an Artist to visit my class for one month. Jing-Jy Chen was Taiwanese and taught my students (3-5) how to brush paint, write calligraphy, and above all- respect this delicate process. The kids looked forward to her visit every year because her methods of teaching were so successful. I absorbed all I could from her and today my two older kids learned a little about how to brush paint with watercolors. They painted bamboo and a panda 🐼 ❤️ and enjoyed working with some restraint (Benji did not participate because I will say you need a sense of control over these materials).
Forts make reading more fun. So in this house- full of active boys- I will do anything to get them to sit and read. Even if it means adding cardboard to our space for a while. How do you encourage reading in your home?
We had such a fun morning at the DANCE it Out studio with @maggieoartist. They played our tunes and passed out the disco balls. It felt nice to get out of the house and let loose a bit. Check her account for info on reserving a private spot! Covid protocols are in place. Proceeds go to The Worker’s Relief Fund 💃 📷 @deveneywilliams
